Intervju

Interview

1. Where are you starting from and how?

I probably would not have enrolled in the music school if it hadn’t been for an anecdote. You see, when I was a little kid I watched this pianist playing on TV. I didn’t watch him because of his playing but because I was fascinated by the reflection of his hands in the piano. The problem was that back than I couldn’t recognize it was just a reflection. I was so intrigued by what or who was on the other side that I started my own quest and ended up in music school.

Concerning electronic music, I was mostly influenced by a friend who ran a club in my hometown, at the time a center of a club scene. Many world famous musicians played there and it was a chance from me to see at first-hand how they create music, and also the world behind the scenes when they would relax during the coffee time. It was an interesting experience to see them work on their machines and to listen the changes in the sounds they created. Club music started it all, it’s true, but when I got in touch with electronic music in the field of classical music, I knew it right away it was the music I’d like to create.

2. Which way are you going?

While I was studying I realized how vast is the field of using electronic music and how it enables a lot of different variations by creating new possibilities within itself and between other media. Lately, my work is not just music specific; I’ve started working and focusing on multimedia projects. And what I’m especially looking forward to are collaborations, not only with artist but with people of other professions (programmers, pedagogues, physicists…). Through collaborations you can create much more interesting projects and learn a lot about other media, too.

3. Where are you going to?

I never worry about what I will do after I finish a composition or a project, or which direction could be the best next choice, it all comes spontaneously. I don’t like to repeat myself and I always try to find new means when composing music and electro acoustic music is really grateful in that area. That is the place where the lure of composing electro acoustic music is hidden, because the sound is the starting element and the source of the sound can be changed frequently. Today it can be a sound of some acoustic instrument or the human voice; tomorrow it can be a sound of paper crumpling, day after that it can be some synthetic sound. I’m always trying to find new sounds for my compositions.
