NENAD SINKAUZ

Skladatelj, glazbenik i performer Nenad Sinkauz (1980., HR) magistrirao je etnomuzikologiju u Padovi, a glazbom se aktivno bavi od 1995. godine. Suosnivač je i član eksperimentalnog benda East Rodeo s kojim i danas djeluje, a kojem su se prilikom snimanja trećeg albuma “Morning Cluster” pridružili i velikani svjetsje jazz i rock scene Marc Ribot, Gerg Cohen i Warren Ellis. Od 2001. do 2009. je kao skladatelj, glazbenik i performer surađivao s eksperimentalnim kazalištem TAM teatromusica iz Padove i redateljem Micheleom Sambinom, nakon čega svoj kazališni rad nastavlja s Ivanom Sajko (predstave “Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose” i “Prizori s jabukom“), te kao koautor i izvođač glazbeno-scenskog projekta “Malo je dovoljno“. Nastupio je na nizu glazbenih, kazališnih i filmskih festivala i pozornica diljem Europe. Surađuje na projektima suvremenog plesa s Petrom Hraščanec i Malom Kline, te sklada glazbu  za dokumentarne i eksperimentalne filmove.

Composer, musician and performer Nenad Sinkauz (1980, CRO) has a Masters Degree in Ethnomusicology from Padua, and he has been actively involved with music since 1995. He is the co-author and a member of East Rodeo experimental band, which, on its third album “Morning Cluster”, hosted great names of world jazz and rock scene Marc Ribot, Gerg Cohen and Warren Ellis. As a composer, musician and performer, from 2001 to 2009 he collaborated with TAM teatromusica experimental theatre from Padua and the director Michele Sambino, after which he continued his theatre work with Ivana Sajko (plays “Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose” and “Prizori s jabukom“), and as the co-author and performer in a musical-theatrical project “Malo je dovoljno”. He has performed at a number of music, theatre and film festivals and stages all over Europe. He collaborates on contemporary dance projects with Petra Hraščanec and Mala Kline, and composes music for documentaries and experimental films.

1. Od kud počinješ i kako?

Nikad se nisam pitao zašto radim kao glazbenik. Krenuo sam od malih nogu svirati klavir i ubrzo se zaljubio u gitaru. Nisam mislio da ću biti glazbenik kad narastem….zapravo sam bio uvjeren da ću igrati nogomet. Metode rada mijenjam od projekta do projekta. Najčešće kreiram glazbene materijele kroz improvizaciju (ta mi je metoda najdraža). Postoji i velika razlika u metodi stvaranja ovisno o tome iz kojih medija dolaze moji suradnici (glazba, ples, video itd.)

2. Kojim putem ideš?

Osnovno glazbeno obrazovanje stekao sam svirajući klavir u osnovnoj muzičkoj školi, zatim sam   krenuo svirati gitaru te pohađati razne jazz workshope i škole. Najveći utjecaj na moj rad imaju definitivno moji suradnici, neovisno iz kojih medija oni dolaze. Naučio sam mnogo od kazališnih redatelja, plesača i koreografa, isto koliko i od glazbenih suradnika, profesora i raznih mentora.

 3. Kuda želiš stići?

Osim što kreiram glazbu i sviram uživo, desetak godina komponiram glazbu za kazališne predstave u kojima sam često i performer. Tako da mogu reći da radim paralelno na više projekata. Svaki projekt mijenja i oplemenjuje moju muzičku aktivnost na razne načine. Ne mogu si zamisliti da se bavim glazbom bez da je “kontaminiram” drugim medijima i bez da surađujem s raznim umjetnicima iz različitih branši.

1. Where are you starting from and how?

I’ve never asked myself that question: why I work as a musician. As a kid, I first played piano and then, soon after, I fell in love with the guitar. I never thought I’d be a musician when I grow up. Actually, I was convinced I’d be a soccer player. Methods of work change from project to project. Mostly, I create music through improvisation (which is my favorite method). There is a big difference between various methods of creating music – they depend on the media my collaborators come from (music, dance, video etc.).

2. Which way are you going?

I gained basic music education by playing the piano in primary music school. Then I started to play guitar and attend different jazz workshops and schools. Most influence on my work come from the people I collaborate with, no matter what media they come from. I’ve learned a lot from theatre directors, dancers and choreographers, music collaborators, professors and mentors.

3. Where are you going to?

I create music and I do live performances; for the last 10 years I’ve been creating music for different theatre performances in which I often perform, too. I always work on several projects at the same time. And each of them changes and enriches my music activity and persona. I can’t imagine doing music without ‘contaminating’ it with other media or without collaborations with different artists.
